Ralph Buckingham is a highly-experienced teacher and youth worker. He has a particular interest in child and adolescent mental wellbeing. He is the author of the ReMind programme.

ReMind facilitator training

This one-day training event is for anyone who would like to deliver ReMind in their own context.

This course is suitable for anyone working with young people, including those working in schools, primary care, mental health, churches, etc.

Delegates will:
 > Gain insight into anxiety amongst adolescents,
 > Understand the cognitive behavioural approach to tackling anxiety,
 > Gain an overview of the ReMind programme,
 > Experience various ReMind activities,
 > Be equipped to plan, deliver and administer ReMind,
 > Address any questions. 

Duration: 6½ hours

£180 per person for open courses. Closed courses for 6 or more delegates are £140 per person, plus travel costs. 

The course fee includes a copy of the Facilitator’s Manual, one copy of the Leaner's Journal, and lifetime access to the online resources and refreshments.

Workshop: Tackling anxiety in childhood and teens

This interactive three-hour workshop will provide information and practical tools to children and young people who experience high anxiety.

This event is suitable for small groups of young people aged 10 to 18.

This bespoke training will be tailored to meet the young people’s specific needs.

Typically, young people will:
 > Gain insight into anxiety amongst children and young people like themselves.
 > Recognise typical indicators, including the psychological and physical effects of anxiety.
 > Understand the link between thoughts, feelings and behaviours.
 > Identify common thinking errors, such as catastrophising and negative filtering.
 > Learn effective, practical tools to help them better manage their own anxiety.
 > Address any questions and access additional support. 

Duration: 3 hours

Seminar: Anxiety in childhood and adolescence

This interactive three-hour event will provide advice and practical measures for those supporting young people. This will be of particular benefit to parents of teens and pre-teens who struggle with anxiety, as well as youth workers, teachers, social workers and others who regularly support them.

This course is suitable for anyone working with young people, including those working in schools, primary care, mental health, churches, etc.

This bespoke training will be tailored to meet your needs. Typically, delegates will:
 > Gain insight into anxiety amongst adolescents.

Workshop: The Art of listening

This interactive, practical three-hour workshop will help you develop your listening skills.

This event is suitable for groups of adults and young people.

This bespoke training will be tailored to meet your particular needs and setting. Typically, delegates will:
 > Recognise the elements of effective listening;
 > Discover ways of overcoming barriers that hinder effective listening;
 > Understand how a person's beliefs influence his/her response to a given situation;
 > Develop practical listening skills.

Regulated Qualification:
First Aid for Mental Health

Ofqual regulated awards in First Aid for Mental Health, including the First Aid for Youth Mental Health.

These qualifications are suitable for anyone, including those working with young people in schools, primary care, mental health, churches, etc.

Each year around 1 in 4 people in the UK will experience a mental health condition and at least 1 in 6 employees experience common mental health problems in the workplace.

These qualifications are regulated and awarded by First Aid Awards (FAA). FAA is an Awarding Organisation regulated by Ofqual and the qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF). These courses includes an assessment, which delegates must pass in order to achieve the relevant award. Qualifications are valid for three years.

There are three levels:
> Awareness of First Aid for Mental Health (Level 1, half-day course)
> First Aid for Mental Health (Level 2, full-day course)
> Supervising First Aid for Mental Health (Level 3, two-day course)

Delegates will cover:
Level 1
> What is First Aid for Mental Health?
> Identifying mental health conditions
> Providing advice and starting a conversation
Level 2 (as above, plus)
> Drugs and alcohol
> First Aid for Mental Health action plan
> First Aid for Mental Health in the workplace
Level 3 (as above plus)
> A large range of Mental Health conditions covered in detail 

Duration: 3 hours / 6 hours / 12 hours

Safeguarding

Regulated Qualification:

> Know what action to take if a safeguarding concern arises

> Understand how to safeguard and protect children, young people or vulnerable adults in the workplace
> Know how to respond to evidence or concerns that a child, young person or vulnerable adult has been abused

Duration: 4 hours / 7 hours

Safeguarding

Workshop:
Emotional First Aid

This three-and-a-half-hour interactive workshop explores what is happening when somebody becomes so emotionally overwhelmed that they behave in undesirable ways. It also examines the best ways to respond in the moment.

This workshop is especially suitable for those who work with children or manage adults. It is also ideal for parents who are seeking to better understand their children’s behaviour and communications.


Emotional First Aid was developed in response to these challenges. It aims to equip those who support children and adults who are struggling to manage their emotional wellbeing or regulate their behaviours.

Whether you are a professional working in education, healthcare, or a community group, or at home caring for your family, this training will give you the skills and confidence to understand what others may be facing and help them regulate their overwhelming emotions

Delegates will:
> Explain the arousal continuum in terms of emotional states and brain activity;
> Identify how trauma and emotional overwhelm shapes behaviour and communication;
> Recognise how a trauma informed response can help reduce emotional overwhelm;
> Reflect on own professional practice, identifying opportunities to adopt trauma informed practices when working with children or adults whose communications or behaviours suggest they are emotionally overwhelmed.

Duration: 3½  hours

Workshop:
Lone Working

This three-and-a-half-hour interactive workshop will equip your team to work safely and ethically when lone working.

This event is suitable for staff who work alone as well as those who manage teams of staff who work remotely or alone.


This bespoke training will be tailored to meet your particular needs and setting. Typically, delegates will:
> Recognise the risks and rewards or lone working;
> Discover how to effectively plan for known risks (risk assessments);
> Understand the need to dynamically monitor risks throughout an event;
> Consider aspects of personal safety while working remotely (safety plan);
> Develop de-escalation skills.

Duration: 3½ hours
